EKO HOT BLOG reports that Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho will be sidelined for the rest of the 2022/23 Premier League season due to an adductor muscle tear sustained in the club’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Tuesday.
Foxes manager, Dean Smith, made the announcement during Friday’s press conference, saying, “He’s got a tear in his adductor muscle. He’s out for a number of weeks. I’m not going to rule him out for the rest of the season, but it’s going to be tough to get him back. Hopefully, we can.”
Iheanacho has been in fine form for the former Premier League champions, scoring two goals in his last three appearances. He played a pivotal role in Leicester City’s equalizing goal against Leeds United at Elland Road before picking up the injury.
Smith acknowledged the significance of Iheanacho’s injury and its impact on the team’s performances, saying, “It’s a blow. He came on at half-time against Man City and did ever so well. He played really well in the Wolves game as well. He scored the penalty and created chances. His all-round displays have been really good, so it’ll be a loss, but it’s an opportunity for others.”
Leicester City will face Everton in their next Premier League game on Monday, and Iheanacho’s absence is sure to be felt by the team. The Nigerian international has been an integral part of the Foxes’ attack this season, and his injury is a significant setback for the team as they look to secure a top-four finish in the league.
