Kenya Protest: I Have No Blood in My Hand – President
Hundreds of people marched in Nairobi, the Federal Capital of Kenya, on Sunday to honour those who died in anti-government demonstrations.
Eko Hot Blog reported that President William Ruto insisted that he is not to be blamed for the outcome of the protest which led to the death of at least 30 people.
“I have no blood on my hands,” Ruto stated.
Recall that a protest sparked following the government’s decision to raise taxes significantly.
Following the violence, Ruto announced he would “listen to the people” and would not sign the finance bill into law.

In a television interview, Ruto stated the death toll was 19 — the first official figures released — and promised a full investigation into the deaths.
The largely peaceful rallies turned violent last Tuesday when lawmakers approved the unpopular tax hikes under pressure from the International Monetary Fund. Police opened fire on protesters who stormed the parliament complex, and a fire broke out.
“I have no blood on my hands,” Ruto reiterated during the interview with Kenyan TV. He described the deaths as “very unfortunate,” adding, “As a democracy, that should not be part of our conversation…”
He assured that there would be an investigation into how these 19 Kenyans died and that there would be an explanation for each one. “The police have done the best they could,” Ruto said. “If there have been any excesses, we have mechanisms to make sure that those excesses are dealt with.”
He also warned that those who attacked parliament would be held accountable.
