Keyamo Unveils Nigeria’s Largest Jet Fuel Depot, JUHI-2

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has inaugurated the Joint User Hydrant Installation 2 (JUHI-2), a state-of-the-art jet fuel storage facility with a capacity of 150 million litres of Jet A1 fuel, making it the largest airside jet fuel depot in Nigeria.

This facility, located in Ikeja, Lagos, has the capacity to supply 150 million litres of aviation turbine kerosene (ATK) monthly, which represents 20% of Nigeria’s annual aviation fuel sales.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the JUHI-2 project is a collaborative effort between several companies, including Eterna Plc, Masters Energy Oil & Gas, Techno Oil & Gas, Rahamaniyya Oil & Gas, Ibafon Oil, Quest Oil Group, and First Deep Water Limited.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Keyamo highlighted the significance of the facility in reducing flight delays and cancellations due to fuel shortages. He also noted that JUHI-2 aligns with global aviation requirements, positioning Nigeria more prominently on the world stage.

“This facility is crucial to Nigeria’s aviation sector, addressing fuel shortages that often result in flight delays and cancellations. It also fulfills international requirements, ensuring that such infrastructure is close to major airports worldwide, and supporting critical operations such as the annual Hajj,” Keyamo said.

Chairman of JUHI-2 Ventures Limited, Patience Dappa, emphasized the facility’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and establishing a reliable jet fuel supply chain.

Dappa, a legal practitioner, also noted that the facility would improve refueling efficiency, reducing delays and enhancing the competitiveness of Nigerian airports.

“This depot is not only equipped with modern technology like filtration systems and a laboratory but also capable of loading four fuel bowsers simultaneously, ensuring efficient service to Murtala Muhammed International Airport and nearby airbases,” Dappa stated.

She added that the facility would contribute to local economic growth by creating employment and stimulating industries such as transportation and logistics.

The Managing Director of Eterna Oil Plc, Abiola Lawal, highlighted the cutting-edge technology in the JUHI-2 depot, noting its capacity to handle four aviation fuel trucks at once with a turnaround time of just 25 minutes, ensuring fast and efficient fuel delivery.

Bridget Gold, Director of Legal Services for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), also praised JUHI-2 as a critical asset for improving aviation service delivery and supporting national economic growth.
