Kidnapped FMC Yola Doctor Regains Freedom

The kidnapped medical doctor with Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yola, has regained freedom.

Dr Abdurrahman Muhammad Kawuyo who was kidnapped at the weekend from his home in Lakare, Yola South Local Government Area, returned home Monday morning after his abductors received N1.45m ransom.

A family source said that negotiators had been busy since Sunday morning beating down the ransom from the N10 million initially demanded by the kidnappers.

“The sum of N1,450,000 was finally raised and paid,” the source said.

The source who preferred anonymity said that it was loaded with threats by the kidnappers, that talks hovered around N5 million for a long while before it came down finally to the N1.45 million.

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) said on Monday that it is okay for Dr Kawuyo to be freed now, but that his freedom does not end the story.

The state chairman of the NMA, Dr. Tounde Elijah, said: “It is not enough to relax. We have to think of how to protect who would be next.
