EDITOR’S PICK:
The level of insecurity in Nigeria is on the rise daily, so we must be very cautious. Kidnappers have exploited certain families, extorting millions of Naira in ransom payments. Kidnappers now mostly operate on highways, intending to abduct members of wealthy families. These guys make a living off kidnapping, and we need to know how to avoid falling into their trap.
Maintain an unostentatious lifestyle and stay avoid wearing too fancy attire (except necessary) to avoid being a target for kidnappers. If you need to make a call in public and it involves business or large sums of money, do so softly, or find a private spot.
Don’t post your home and office addresses on social media. Avoid posting pictures, showing your home address or the exact location you work.
Also, don’t post pictures of your kids in their school uniforms on the internet. School uniforms usually have an emblem with the school’s name and address. This could provide information to kidnappers about their children’s whereabouts.
