Kogi: PDP Leaders Call for Immediate Suspension of Senator Dino Melaye
The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has labeled Senator Dino Melaye as a liability to the party, urging for his immediate suspension.
Led by Ibrahim Dansofo, PDP elders in the state have called on the local executive committee in Ijumu to initiate suspension proceedings against Melaye, stating the need to restore the party’s integrity and focus on strong leadership.
This comes after Melaye, on Saturday, accused the PDP’s acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu, and Umar Bature of irreparably damaging the party.

In response, the party elders condemned his remarks, asserting that Melaye’s political influence has diminished to the extent that he can no longer secure even a local councillor position.
The Dansofo-led elders criticised Melaye as a liability, accusing him of using his association with the PDP to negotiate personal gains with the ruling party rather than contributing positively to the party’s success.
“Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party.
“His accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election,” Dansofo said.
The Kogi PDP holds Melaye responsible for the party’s current struggles, claiming that his nomination was a significant mistake that has contributed to their present challenges. They have also urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reconsider their support for Melaye, describing him as a “burden” and a “major liability” for the party.

The party elders called on the public to disregard Melaye’s comments, dismissing them as the desperate words of a man whose political relevance has waned.
They also demanded that Melaye account for the billions he allegedly collected in the name of the governorship election, as the Kogi PDP aims to move forward, reclaim its strength, and rebuild its reputation as a formidable political force in the state.
