The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has announced that both the gubernatorial poll and the senatorial poll would take place on the same day.
INEC has slated both elections for November 16, 2019.
The National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee for INEC, Barr. Festus Okoye, revealed the development on Monday.
Okoye noted that the development was a result of the meeting the commission held on Monday.
He said “The Commission has fixed 16th November 2019 for the conduct of a fresh election in the Kogi West Senatorial District. The election will take place simultaneously with the Kogi Governorship election.
“This is sequel to the nullification of the Kogi West Senatorial District election conducted on 23th February 2019 by the Election Petitions Tribunal and its subsequent affirmation by the Court of Appeal which ordered the Commission to conduct a fresh election within 90 days from the date of judgment (11th October 2019) with all those who participated in it as eligible candidates.”
It could be recalled that Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal had suspended the election of Senator Dino Melaye following the suit filed by the All Progressive Congress Candidate, Adeyemi, the tribunal had ordered INEC to conduct fresh senatorial poll for the affected senatorial district.
