Kogi Road Mishap Leaves 17 Dead

At least seventeen persons have been killed in an automobile accident that happened in Kogi.

Ekohotblog understands that the unfortunate incident happened in Irepene, a community along the Abuja-Lokoja highway in Kogi State around 5pm on Friday.

The accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a passenger luxurious bus.

The Kogi State Sector Commander, Federal Roads Safety Corp (FRSC), Solomon Agure, who confirmed the incident, said Fifteen of the victims reportedly died on the spot.

He disclosed that those who sustained injury were rushed to the hospital, where two persons later gave up the ghost.

Narrating how the incident happened, Agure said the Toyota Hiace was heading  to Auchi, Edo State while the luxurious bus was coming from Okene axis of Kogi state.

He said the driver of the luxurious bus lost control of the vehicle after overtaking a car and his inability to regain control of the bus made him ram into the Toyota bus plunging it into the bush.

“The vehicle somersaulted, and fifteen people died on the spot and two later died at the hospital.” he said

He, however, admonished motorists to obey speed limit and not to overspeed and also to avoid night journey.

“It is very important for motorists to obey the speed limit which is 90km/pH, with commercial vehicles and 100km/hr with private vehicles,” he cautioned.
