Kwara Doctors Begin Seven-Day Warning Strike

  • Kwara state doctors have began a seven-day warning strike
  • This is to press on their demand for improved service conditions

Ekohotblog reports that resident doctors in Kwara state have been a seven days warning strike to press home their demands concerning an improved condition of service.

The doctors, under the auspices of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, Kwara branch, said all of them in the 16 local government areas of the state would stay off work for seven days.

You will recall that Ekohotblog reported that the Kwara state government had urged the medical doctors to suspend their planned strike and accept the 70% offer that was proposed in a meeting with the governor.

The association’s chairman, Dr. Saka Agboola, told journalists in Ilorin, the state capital on Monday that members have been patient enough with the government.

He said, “It has reached a point that the wellbeing of doctors in Kwara State has to be seriously looked into.

“We have responsibilities to our families, our neighbours and even to our patients. There is the need to remunerate the doctors to get efficient output.

“This is the more reason why we have engaged the government at different fora for it to meet our demands.

“But it is unfortunate that at the expiration of the ultimatum given, we have not been able to reach a comfortable agreement.”

Agboola said that the one week strike would afford the government opportunity to re-engage the association.
