Eko Hot Blog reports that in a deeply concerning incident, the Kwara State Police Command has launched an investigation into the disappearance of a placenta and umbilical cord.
The case unfolded at the Government Cottage Hospital in Iloffa, Oke-Ero Local Government Area, where five staff members have been apprehended.
Among those detained are Dr. Ajibola, nurses Rukayat Adeloye, Aishat Awolusi, Peace Alabi, and ward attendant Toyin Adewunmi.
Community Outrage and Suspicion “The unfortunate incident of the missing umbilical cord is true,” stated DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, the police command’s spokesperson.
The incident has sparked outrage within the community, with the newborn’s grandfather, Mr. Rufus Sanya, voicing suspicions of foul play.
“I urge the police to do a thorough investigation and unravel the mystery behind this disappearance,” Sanya implored.
Mother’s Distress and Unanswered Questions Mrs. C.B Williams, the newborn’s mother and an English teacher, raised concerns after medical personnel failed to provide the placenta and cord.
“The attendant claimed she had thrown the placenta into a pit, but it could not be found, suggesting a dog might have eaten it,” Williams recounted.
Authorities Assure Thorough Probe Amidst the community’s unease, the Kwara State Police have assured the public of a rigorous investigation to uncover the truth.
“A discreet investigation is ongoing at the state criminal investigation department,” DSP Toun stated, promising further details upon conclusion.
