Mbappe was named as the new captain of the French national team following the retirement of Hugo Lloris, Karim Benzema, and Raphael Varane from international duty. Mbappe recently spoke about the incident in a press conference transcribed by RMC Sport, saying that he had spoken to Griezmann and understood his disappointment.
Mbappe acknowledged that Griezmann is an important player during the Deschamps era and that he is not his hierarchical superior. He also stated that Griezmann and he would work hand in hand to allow their team to impose itself on a global level.
Mbappe further emphasized that if Griezmann has something to say to the group, he will sit down and listen, and no one should be shut out. “Everyone is free to express themselves,” Mbappe added.
Griezmann has been a crucial player for France in recent years, having scored seven goals in 26 appearances for his country. Despite his disappointment at not being named captain, Griezmann remains a vital part of the French squad and is expected to contribute significantly to their upcoming matches.
