EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Spanish La Liga body has banned the use of the term ‘El Clasico’ for marketing purpose by Real Madrid and Barcelona.
This is as a result of both clubs trying to trademark the term for games between them, which was reportedly denied by the Patent and Trademark Office in Spain.
The term ‘El Clasico’ has so far come to be known for fixtures between Real Madrid and Barcelona, be it La Liga fixtures or not, however, according to reports, the term puts itself in direct clash with La Liga itself who uses the term, ‘el clasico’ for promoting league matches.
Relevo reports that neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid will be able to use the term anymore to market the fixture as there stands the risk of confusion when being marketed by the League.
