2027 Presidency Not Zoned To South-East – Labour Party Insists

The Labour Party has dismissed reports suggesting that it has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South-East.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

Reacting to circulating reports, Ifoh clarified that the party had not allocated its presidential ticket to any region or individual. He stressed that Labour Party remains a national party with no zoning policy.

He also addressed a statement attributed to the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, stating that his remarks had been misinterpreted.

“Abure’s statement titled ‘2027: Labour Party still available for Ndigbo to realise presidency’ was taken out of context,” Ifoh said.

According to him, Abure only encouraged members from the South-East at a gathering, saying that the Igbo could still achieve the presidency if they united and built alliances with other regions.

“Our chairman was simply stating that the Labour Party remains a viable platform for the aspirations of the Igbo, not that the ticket has been zoned,” he added.

Ifoh reiterated that Labour Party operates on democratic principles and that all candidates must emerge through a competitive process.

“In the 2023 elections, our party secured seats across both northern and southern states. We are working to expand this success in future elections. The party’s constitution does not support zoning,” he stated.

The spokesman also expressed satisfaction with the public interest in the party’s affairs, describing it as a sign of the trust Nigerians have in Labour Party.

“We appreciate the concerns raised by the public. It shows their confidence in us and their willingness to support our vision for a better Nigeria,” he said.

Ifoh urged Nigerians to continue supporting the party as it works towards strengthening democracy in the country.

“We will not fail you. Together, we shall overcome,” he assured.
