Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has claimed that many opposition parties in Nigeria serve as “feeder parties” to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), rather than offering genuine political alternatives.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking on Rubbin’ Minds, a Channels Television talk show on Sunday, Sowore alleged that most of the opposition parties were created by the APC as Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) for elections and legal manoeuvres. He insisted that the AAC is the only true opposition party among the 18 registered political parties in the country.
“In our research, we found that most parties, apart from AAC, were created by the major parties. They call them feeder parties or SPVs,” Sowore stated. “They are funded by the ruling parties during elections. After the elections, these so-called opposition parties challenge results in court, only to settle later and back down quietly.”
The publisher and activist went further to criticize the Labour Party (LP), describing it as the worst of all opposition parties. According to him, many politicians used the LP merely as a temporary platform to secure political office before defecting back to the APC or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The Labour Party is the worst. Most of the people who joined them were looking for a quick win. They used it, got what they wanted, and returned to the APC or PDP. That’s why I call LP a short rental,” Sowore said.

He also claimed that when opposition parties meet with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), they do not behave like opposition forces. “The people who oppose us most at such meetings are the smaller parties you’d expect to stand with us,” he added.
Sowore agreed with growing concerns that the APC is trying to establish a one-party state in Nigeria, noting that the absence of a strong, credible opposition is a major threat to democracy.
