Eko Hot Blog reports that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Idowu Owohunwa has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Okokomaiko area of the state.
The police spokesperson In Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the disclosure in a post on Twitter on Saturday.
He said the CP removed the DPO for his alleged lack of supervision of his men.
Hundeyin added that CP Owohunwa has also ordered the commencement of disciplinary action against the DPO and all his indicted officers (who are already in the state headquarters).
The policemen, who were attached to the Okokomaiko division of the Lagos State Police Command, had extorted N101,000 from Onyinyechi Esther Anwusi, a mobile phone dealer at the Alaba International Market, Lagos.
The victim narrated that the police officers accosted and searched him without warrant, then forced him to unlock his mobile phone and search through the contents of his phone but nothing incriminating was found.
The officers thereafter forced him to write a statement under duress indicting himself as an internet fraudster and forcefully made him pay the sum of N101,000 despite committing no crime.
