A picnic between two lovebirds ended in tragedy on Sunday, August 30, after a woman slipped and fell at Chepkiit Waterfalls in Nandi County.
31-year-old Dorcas Jepkemoi Chumba and her boyfriend Benjamin Kazungu, were having a photo session, when the tragic incident took place.
Kazungu watched helplessly as Chumba was swept away by the raging waters with his attempts to save her not baring any fruits.
“The dam was so full, I tried to rescue her but was not able to,” Kazungu stated.
Chumba’s family has since requested the county government to help in retrieving the body of the deceased.
“The tragedy indeed took place and we have come to accept that Chumba is no more. We are, however, requesting for help to retrieve the body and give her a befitting send-off,” the deceased’s brother Victor Kiptoo pleaded.
Nandi County police boss Samson ole Kina indicated that it has been difficult to retrieve the body due to the raging floods.
“This dam has become a dangerous place especially during rainy season,” Kina stated as he warned residents to be extra careful and to keep off.
