Gov. Alia Benue Minimum Wage
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has assured that the state is fully prepared to address potential flooding risks, particularly in the event of the opening of the Lagdo Dam.
He emphasized that the state is not just considering options but has actively engaged in extensive public awareness campaigns to mitigate the risk.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking to State House correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, Alia underscored the administration’s commitment to preventive measures over reactive responses.
He clarified that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is well-equipped to manage any flood-related challenges.
The governor also noted ongoing discussions on dredging the river and exploring other solutions before seeking federal support.
Alia highlighted that the state is proactively prepared, with SEMA and other emergency teams ready to act.
He acknowledged the ongoing issue of residents living in flood-prone areas, explaining that while the government appeals to them to relocate, the risks of remaining in such areas are made clear.

“We are not just waiting; we are prepared. We pray the flood doesn’t come, but if it does, we are definitely equal to the task,” Alia stated.
He also pointed out that those who choose to stay in risky areas do so at their own risk, despite the government’s efforts to appeal to them.
