EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, on Monday, held a sensitisation campaign to ameliorate unemployment amongst youths and adults in Epe.
Speaking with EKO HOT BLOG at the event, the HOD, Vocational Department of Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, Mrs Ayo Salu, explained that it was important to visit Epe town for the exercise to recruit trainees into the two vocational centres.
The Lagos Agency For Mass Education centres, which she said are strategically located for the youths and adults of Epe Division to ameliorate unemployment experienced in Nigeria are situated at Better Life Centre, Kasali Oluwo Street, Epe and St Peters’ Primary School, Odoragunshin, Eredo LCDA.
She stated that the day was strategically chosen because it fell on the market day in Epe and Mojoda, stressing that it was the best way to engage the people.
“The youths and adults should know that there are vocational centres that can equip them for life. There’s no age limit, and the centres are flexible in their timetable and operation. We sincerely want to recruit new trainees to our vocational centres. We also want to propagate vocational training as a way of life.
“Gone are the days when a University degree will give you white-collar jobs. The white-collar jobs are no more there, they are scarce and whoever is waiting for them may be disappointed in Nigeria.
“Kudos to our Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu who has granted us approval to carry out this year’s sensitisation. Vocational training and skill acquisition is a panacea to unemployment in Nigeria,” she said.
Speaking further, she added that the human and material resources needed for the students to thrive such as the skills, equipment, and instructors, have been provided by the government free of charge.
However, she asserted that the trainees would have to provide their practical materials.
She disclosed that the vocational training which would attract a certificate of competence recognised all over Nigeria has a time frame of 3, 5 or 9 months from 10:00 – 02:00 pm, thrice a week.
Students of the vocational centres were joined by the Lagos team in the sensitisation exercise at Ayetoro market and Oluwo Chief Market in Epe together with Mojoda market in Eredo LCDA.
The Lagos Agency For Mass Education sensitisation team, it was gathered, had a stopover at the Odoragunshin residence of the former First Lady of Lagos, Lady Doja Otedola, to pay her a courtesy visit.
