EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident caused panic within parts of the airport, though the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, confirmed that no lives were lost. Six people sustained injuries and received medical attention following the outbreak.
Flight operations were temporarily affected, with three international carriers—Emirates, British Airways, and Lufthansa—forced to divert to alternate airports. Airport authorities stated that normal operations would gradually resume after the situation was contained.
Mrs. Kuku explained that emergency procedures were immediately activated, with the airport’s Emergency Operations Centre leading the response. Passengers and staff were moved to safety under the supervision of the airport manager, who served as Chief Safety and Security Officer.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have started on the ground floor before spreading upward. FAAN noted that although renovation works are ongoing at the airport, no construction activity was taking place in the affected area at the time of the incident; workers were only relocating items within the space.
Following the outbreak, departures and arrivals were temporarily moved to other sections of the airport, including Terminal Two. Additionally, a temporary terminal has been prepared to accommodate four airlines while operations fully stabilise.

FAAN assured the public that detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire and pledged to provide further updates once the full assessment is completed.
