The Lagos state government says schools in the state can resume academic activities for the second term 2020/2021 academic session from January 18.
According to a statement on Monday by Folasade Adefisayo, commissioner for education, all public and private schools below tertiary level in Lagos should be reopened on the date, advising the authorities to comply with COVID-19 protocols.
“The Lagos State Government has announced that all public and private schools below tertiary level in Lagos State should be reopened for the second term 2020/21 academic session from Monday, 18th of January, 2021,” the statement read.
Ekohotblog reports that Adefisayo said the development was in line with the Federal Government’s directive in light of the second wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“She therefore enjoined all schools to make efforts to comply with all the outlined Covid-19 requirements for resumption schools. “Not just for the improvement of overall school operations but for the safe reopening of academic activities to support the Lagos State Government’s quest for a full return.”
The Commissioner implored schools to put in place have ‘flexible plans’ that would allow indisposed students and teachers to teach or learn remotely using a designated online platforms, noting that schools must work assidiously to ensure all students and staff are protected from COVID-19 infection.

She admonished teachers, students and visitors to abide by health advisories and COVID-19 protocols by wearing facemasks at all times, observe physical distancing, embrace regular hand washing with soap under running water and maintain a high standard of personal hygiene within the school premises.
