Speaking under ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance,’ Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, expressed deep sorrow over Wigwe’s demise, describing it as “shocking, painful, disturbing, and unexpected.”
Dr. Obasa recounted his last conversation with the late Wigwe during a flight from Abuja to Lagos, highlighting the deceased banker’s passion for Nigeria’s development.
“The demise of Wigwe is painful because this is someone who struggled to establish himself professionally, contributing significantly to the banking industry and personal life. He was known for his philanthropy, particularly his support for the Lagos City Marathon and the establishment of Wigwe University,” said Speaker Obasa.
Reflecting on his last encounter, Dr. Obasa emphasized the importance of leaving positive imprints on society, urging Wigwe’s colleagues to sustain his philanthropic activities.
He mentioned the Lagos City Marathon’s expansion beyond Nigeria and the Wigwe University, expressing confidence that these initiatives were meant for the benefit of Nigerians.
Lawmakers echoed their sentiments, portraying Wigwe as a humble and compassionate man despite his financial success.
