Eko Hot Blog reports that the Finance Committee of the Lagos State House of Assembly has challenged companies operating under Ibile Holdings Limited to prioritize the introduction of products that will directly benefit citizens, particularly the less privileged.
This call comes as part of a comprehensive performance evaluation and alignment with the state government’s objectives.
Addressing the press, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Hon. Femi Saheed, emphasized the importance of assessing the state’s investments in Ibile Holdings Limited and ensuring that the objectives of its establishment are met.
“The purpose of inviting Ibile Holdings Limited and other investment heads under their umbrella is to evaluate the performance of Lagos State’s investments. Additionally, it is essential to ensure that the objectives of the establishment of Ibile Holdings are meeting the expectations of the citizens,” said Saheed.
Praising Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s initiatives, Saheed stated, “The governor has done an excellent job with these ideas. Our responsibility as lawmakers is to assess the functionality of policies and their impact on the citizens’ well-being.”
Saheed further emphasized the need for collaboration between Ibile Holdings and the government to achieve the objectives of the THEME plus agenda and mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
“We also want to evaluate the level of collaboration between Ibile Holdings and the government to achieve the objectives of the THEME plus agenda as soon as possible. Additionally, we aim to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal,” he explained.
The lawmaker commended the establishment of the Ibile Holdings Microfinance Bank, describing it as the only successful microfinance bank established by a sub-national entity. However, he urged the bank to introduce products that cater to the needs of Lagosians, especially the less privileged.
“I believe it is high time the bank reaches out to the people and introduces products that will benefit Lagosians, especially the less privileged. This will help them understand the purpose of the microfinance bank and how it aims to support economically active citizens of Lagos State,” Saheed said.
During the meeting, Executive Director of Ibile Holdings, Mumeenat Babs-Animashaun, and Managing Director of Lagos Bus Service Limited, Mr. Idowu Oguntona, addressed various challenges faced by the companies and discussed potential partnerships to resolve them.
Other lawmakers who contributed during the meeting included Hon. Desmond Elliott, Hon. Aro Moshood, and Hon. Olarenwaju Afinni, among others.
As Lagos State continues to drive economic growth and development, the call from the House of Assembly underscores the importance of aligning state investments with the needs of the people, fostering innovation, and ensuring that the benefits of progress reach all segments of society.
