Lagos Celebrates Cultural Tapestry, Backs Brazilian Descendants’ Extravaganza
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a resounding affirmation of its commitment to cultural preservation and diversity, the Lagos State Government has pledged to sustain its unwavering support for the Brazilian Descendants Arts and Culture Association (BDACA) through its annual Popo Aguda Easter Arts and Music Extravaganza.

Addressing a press briefing to announce activities for the Third Annual Popo Aguda Easter Arts and Music Extravaganza, slated for March 29th and 31st, 2024, Mr. Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, emphasized the state’s dedication to nurturing cultural initiatives.
“The event exemplifies the spirit of unity and diversity that defines Lagos. We are committed to nurturing and promoting such initiatives that celebrate our collective heritage,” Aregbe stated.
Outlining the vibrant lineup of activities spanning culture, cuisine, music, dance, cultural performances, and tourism, Aregbe highlighted the event’s immersive experience for attendees, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Brazilian and Nigerian traditions.
“The celebration, apart from featuring a diverse lineup of activities, including live music performances and traditional dance showcases, will additionally allow attendees to indulge in a culinary journey, sampling a delectable array of Brazilian and Nigerian delicacies,” he added.
Mrs. Oloruntoyin Atekoja, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, commended the organizers for their periodic innovations, injecting fresh elements into the event.
Rear Admiral Anthony Okanlawon Oni (Rtd.), the Chairman of the event’s Planning Committee, provided an overview, revealing that the first day, March 29th, will witness the Frejon food festival at the Pavillion Cultural Centre, Igbosere, while the second day, March 31st, will feature musical concerts at the Campos Mini Stadium.
“In addition to our musical and artistic offerings, we have also embraced our culinary heritage with the introduction of a food festival, thereby showcasing the iconic Frejon del,” Oni said. “This traditional dish, prepared on Good Friday to commemorate the Easter season in Popo Aguda, not only symbolizes communal love but also reflects the intergenerational transmission of culinary knowledge within our community.”
