Dissatisfied with the outcome, the PDP candidate went to the Lagos State National Assembly election petitions tribunal to challenge the result, alleging that it was marred by irregularities.
The tribunal sitting in Lagos is weeks into pre-hearing.
In a statement on Friday, Gomez said briefings from his legal team on the proceedings have indicated that the respondents, APC and its candidate in the Senatorial election, “appeared to have developed cold feet in the face of overwhelming evidences of non compliance and manipulation allegedly perpetrated during the last election.”
He went further to say that the ruling party and his opponent, through their legal teams, have been foot-dragging and employing delay tactics “knowing fully well that the tribunal has limited time to entertain the petitions.”
Gomez also told of various spurious motions coming up from the APC’s side just to seek adjustments.
The PDP candidate stated that all Eshilokun-Sanni and the ruling party planned is to continue delaying the hearing till after May 29th “when the INEC declared president elect would have been sworn in and believing that such development would facilitate the arm-twisting of the judiciary using the power of incumbency.”
Gomez however, expressed very strong belief in God and the Judiciary to retrieve his “stolen mandate.”
