Lagos Cooperative College Holds Induction Training For Women Groups Sponsored By Wale Raji

Lagos Cooperative College organised induction training for women cooperative groups that were sponsored by Wale Raji.

 

EKO HOT BLOG reports that officials of the Lagos State Cooperative College on Thursday held an induction training for trustees of newly established cooperative societies sponsored by Hon. Wale Raji, House of Representative Member, Epe Federal Constituency.

The event which took place at Epe Local Government Council Chambers had in attendance trustees of the 32 women cooperative groups under the aegis of Asiwaju Progressive Women Co-operative.

 

Thrift and Credit Society consists of traders, artisans, farmers and others in Epe Federal Constituency.

 

In an interview with EKO HOT BLOG on the sidelines of the induction ceremony, Mr Abiodun Balogun disclosed that it was essential to embark on the induction training for the newly registered cooperative societies.

 

He added that it was important for the cooperators to make wise use of the grants provided in growing the thrift society for their personal growth and development.

 

“We want to assume that they’ve never heard about Cooperative thrift and credit society before and as well cooperative administration. The significance of the induction is borne out of the dire need to guide them and let them know the runnings of cooperative societies because we want the cooperative to thrive.

 

“We believe if we train them in earnest, and even intimate them with what should be done at a particular point in time, the cooperative will move forward and will prosper.

 

“In addition, from our presentation, we have admonished them and also let them know that cooperative is a business on its own and if it is well managed, it is going to thrive.

“We also told them that cooperative money is not something that they can expend on frivolities such as parties. They should invest it in business because they must pay back the loan as and when due. We advised them to try as much as possible to use the loan for a viable business,” he said.

 

Earlier during his address, Senior Legislative Aide to Hon Wale Raji, Mr Hassan Bashir disclosed that the project, which was initiated by his boss was hinged on the drive to alleviate the sufferings of the women folk in the trading sector as regards getting adequate funding for their businesses in Epe federal constituency while also advancing their socio-economic prosperity.

While he hinted that the scheme would be unveiled by the Lagos State First Lady, Dr Claudia Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday 6th September 2022 at Epe Recreation Center, he added that the total sum of 64,000,000 million naira has been deposited as grants into the accounts of 32 cooperative groups comprising 40 members, adding that each cooperative group is entitled to the sum of 2,000,000 million naira each.

 

The women were engaged in a highly interactive lecture session about the nitty-gritty of cooperative societies by professional cooperators in areas such as operational guidelines, bookkeeping and financial accounting, loan and credit management in the cooperative, legal framework and the values and principles of cooperatives.

 

Notable among the officials is Assistant Director, Lagos State Cooperative College Agege, Mr Abiodun Balogun, and Assistant Director/Area Officer, Mr Keeji Goriola; Epe Coop. Area Office, Miss Anifowoshe Rofiat; Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives and Principal Consultant EmgeeOdu Global Consult, Mr Gbolahan Odunola.

On his part, the Chairman of Ward Chairmen of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Lagos and political aide to the MHR, Mr Seriki Bowale in his remarks admonished the beneficiaries and the cooperative members to imbibe the spirit of dedication, commitment, discipline and firmness for the smooth running of the cooperative societies, stressing that the project was in fulfilment of Hon Wale Raji’s promise to drastically reduce the humiliation suffered by female traders in taking loans for their businesses.
