In a bold move aimed at fortifying local healthcare delivery, Hon. Fuad Atanda-Lawal, Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has sanctioned a 100% salary hike for medical doctors employed under the council—from N400,000 to N800,000 monthly, effective June 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that marking a threefold increase since February 2024, when doctors’ salaries were first raised from N200,000 to N400,000, the council attributes this second upward review to both a recognition of service and a strategic approach to retaining skilled medical professionals amid the nation’s rising brain drain.

“Our administration is not only reconstructing the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Healthcare Centre—we’re rebuilding the very foundation of healthcare delivery in Ikoyi-Obalende,” said Atanda-Lawal. “By increasing our doctors’ salaries again, we are reinforcing our belief that a healthy society is a wealthy society.”
As the reconstruction of the flagship Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) nears completion, the salary increase takes on added significance.
Currently undergoing its upper-level phase, the revamped facility is projected to substantially improve access to top-quality healthcare services for thousands of residents in the vicinity.
In addressing the rationale behind the wage boost, Chairman Atanda-Lawal highlighted its role in mitigating the ‘Japa’ syndrome-related attrition—a term that encapsulates the mass exodus of Nigerian professionals seeking improved prospects overseas.

“We have only a few weeks left in office, but we remain committed to serving till the very last hour,” he stated, calling on residents to continue supporting people-first governance.
