The police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, made the disclosure on Monday.

He was responding to a report by Punch, which alleged that Ajah policemen were caught drinking on duty, while they abandoned their work.

Hundeyin, who said the transfer of the Ajah police officers would materialise in a “couple of days,” also disclosed that the new DPO Ajah, CSP Adolf Ogwu, has dismantled all shanties located around the Ajah police division.

“I can confirm that this publication has been overtaken by events. The new DPO Ajah, CSP Adolf Ogwu, had earlier in the week dismantled all the shanties around the police station,” he wrote on Twitter.

“In addition, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc has already effected the transfer out of ALL personnel of the division, with replacement from other divisions. This would fully materialize in a couple of days.”

The development comes days after an assistant superintendent of police attached to the Ajiwe police station, Ajah Division, Drambi Vandi, was involved in a shooting incident that led to the death of a lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, who was pregnant with twins.

The lawyer’s killing sparked widespread criticism, while the Lagos state government charged Vandi with murder.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) also suspended the errant officer.
