Lagos Declares War On Illegal Structures, Squatters

In order to sustain the dislodgement of squatters and illegal structures, the State Government has deployed not less than 60 operatives of the three enforcement agencies of the State to various points along Onikan and Outer Marina.

The latest move was possible through the synergy between the operatives of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), Lagos Neighbourhood Watch as well as Lagos State Parks and Gardens to sustain aesthetics in all the cleared areas.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello stated that the buy-in of the Office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 at Onikan had been secured to sustain the effects of the enforcement exercise.

Bello said a large detachment of the operatives of KAI, Neighbourhood Watch and LASPARK will be deployed on a daily basis to man and patrol the listed areas and prevent a return of the environmental nuisance.

Areas that have already been cleared and will be sustained in line with the directives of Governor Sanwo-Olu are the Onikan corridors including Police Zone 2 Office/Island Club, Race Course/Lagos Lawn Tennis Club and  Outer Marina.
