Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has launched the 2024 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, a campaign that takes place every September.

This year’s theme, “SGBV? Not On My Watch!”, emphasizes the need for collective action to end sexual and gender-based violence.

At a press briefing in Ikeja, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, represented by the Acting Solicitor-General, Hameed Oyenuga, outlined the various activities planned for the awareness month.

These include a sensitization walk, symposium, campus activation, and advocacy walk, among others.

Pedro stressed that the state government has a zero-tolerance policy towards SGBV and will engage residents meaningfully to prevent incidents.

He highlighted the Eko Men Walk against SGBV, scheduled for September 9, and another awareness walk from Ile-Zik to Ipodo market and computer village in Ikeja.

The Commissioner expressed appreciation for the support of key stakeholders and partners, including sponsors like Funded IDEA Initiative, Wema Bank, and LASAA.

Fielding questions from reporters, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, revealed that the agency recorded 24,965 cases of domestic and sexual violence in the last six years, with over 50 judgments secured since 2023.

She emphasized the need for continued support and engagement from Lagosians, NGOs, and stakeholders to propagate the SGBV message across the state.
