Following the death of Sikiru Osinowo last week, Lagos East senatorial district has been left without a representation at the upper legislative chamber.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will have to conduct a bye election to fill the legislative void created by the demise of senator sikiru.
To this end, there have scheming and political intrigues by parties who are jostling and interested in vying for the senatorial seat.
In the past few days, the vicious rumour mill have set its wheel in motion, with reports making the rounds speculating that the immediate past governor of Lagos state, Akinwumi Ambode, is eyeing the Lagos East senatorial seat.
But in a rebuttal on Saturday, Ambode, who was unceremoniously ousted from power as governor, refuted reports linking him to the senatorial race.
A source in the former governor’s camp who spoke in confidence because he was not authorized to speak on the issue categorically stated that Ambode is not interested in the senatorial seat.
The source described the reports as not only fake but laughable.
The former governor nurses no plan nor desire whatsoever towards running as a senator let alone replacing anybody, the source categorically stated
The source added that having served Lagos state meritoriously and diligently for four years as governor with his landmark projects dotting the Lagos infrastructural landscape, Ambode has chosen to remain in the background to serve humanity.
