Eko Hot Blog reports that the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council in Lagos, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, has called on party faithful to remain focused on the task of ensuring the party’s success at the polls.
Solomon, better known as GOS, made the plea at the inauguration of the APC campaign committee of the Lagos East Senatorial District on Friday.
The campaign DG thanked the APC leadership in the senatorial district for building an official secretariat for the party, stressing that such a feat is in line with the ideals of the party in ensuring a landslide victory in the 2023 general elections.
“This is a historical moment and I consider it a great privilege to inaugurate this campaign committee,” GOS said.
“I thank God Almighty and our hardworking long-suffering yet desperately committed party members for the continuous investment of their trust in our commitment and competence to direct our country and its governance towards sustainable and wholesome development.”
The APC chieftain noted that the senatorial campaign is not only to work for the victory of the party in the district, but to also ensure the victory of the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and the reelection of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“The senatorial campaign committee is constituted with a conscious determination to ensure inclusiveness and excellence and it is expected to conduct a campaign based on our modest achievement to elect our leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and re-elect our amiable Governor, Dr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu,” he said.
GOS also urged party leaders to engage in a civil campaign that is focused on the issues affecting the electorate, adding that the party faithful must prioritise the party’s success.
“As we begin the campaign in earnest, I implore all our leaders to resist being provoked and remain focused and civil in our campaign. Let us engage our citizens on issues and ask for reflection of the comparative difference between 2015 and 2013 on security, economy, and corruption and abuse by those entrusted with leadership in Nigeria,” he said.
“As we embark on the campaign to secure mandates for the next level, I will like to acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of all stakeholders who have endured to keep our party united and governance successful. I urge members of this formidable team to always keep their eyes upon one which is the success of our party at the polls.”
The APC campaign DG in Lagos further appealed to party members to promote cohesion in their fold, adding that they should be ready to take the party’s message to all corners of the state.
“I appeal to all our members, especially those who are in the campaign committee to unite and cooperate and ensure a smooth operation, needless to add that the directorate could coopt on a full or part-time basis persons who could add value to our campaign and help us to attain success.
“To my mind, the division of responsibility is clear enough. The leadership that has formulated the campaign policy would supervise its execution. The Deputy Director-General has the overall responsibility for all aspects of the campaign including field operations.
“Even though we have only 60 days, this campaign is going to task us all because we intend to touch all corners of our constituency,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Lagos East Vice Chairman, Barrister Olayinka Oladunjoye, spoke with Eko Hot Blog on the sidelines of the event.
Oladunjoye, a former Commissioner of Education, said she was optimistic of the party’s chances at the polls based on the status of the party members that constituted the campaign committee.
“To begin with, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our exemplary party leaders and dedicated members for their remarkable contributions and unprecedented support which has led to the success of today’s historic event. I am therefore optimistic of victory for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all our party candidates come 2023,” she said.
“I am rest assured because of the calibre of staunch party members that constituted the committee list on the basis of their track records both in politics and their various career.
“I want to use this medium to implore them not to be deterred in clinically executing any task that would guarantee the party victory for a renewed hope in Nigeria and a greater Lagos rising.”
On his part, the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Hon Dele Oshinowo, hailed the party’s leadership for the strategic plan employed to reach out to the masses.
According to him, members should target at least four million votes for Tinubu in the presidential election to show to the rest of the country that the APC candidate is from Lagos.
“I want to advise us to look inwards; we need to work on Gen. Z from age 25 and below. Most of them don’t know about Asiwaju because they were born in 1999 and 2000 and know nothing about his achievements. We need to work with them and convince them.
“Also, we need to sacrifice what we have rather than wait for party funds to begin the work. This is the time to sacrifice, Asiwaju is the only one that can give us a better Nigeria and better Lagos State.”
Earlier, the gathering observed a minute’s silence in honour of Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Demola Seriki, who passed away on Thursday.
The event, which held at the Lagos East APC party secretariat, Kosofe Bus Stop, Ketu, was attended by stakeholders such as Hon Fouad Oki, Lagos APC State Campaign secretary; Hon Adeniyi Kehinde, State Welfare Officer; Rtd. AIG Hakeem Odumosu, former Lagos Commissioner of Police; and Alhaja Ramota Bankole, former State Welfare Officer.
Others include Princess Samiat Bada, Chairman, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA; Hon. Sesan Daini, Chairman Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA; Aarebinrin Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Vice Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government; Dr. Seriki Muritala, State Youth Leader, LGA party chairmen, and former sole administrators.
