Lagos East: Council Of Obas, Chiefs Pledge Support To Abiru Senatorial Bid

The Lagos state council of Obas and Ijebu traditional rulers in Lagos have thrown their full weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, Tokunbo Abiru, for the Lagos east senatorial district by-election.

The deluge of traditional enigmas expressed their unalloyed support and commitment to the senatorial aspiration of their seasoned technocrat at monthly meeting of umbrella body of Obas of Ijebu extraction in Lagos, Lagos State Ijebu Traditional Rulers under the Chairmanship of Ayangburen of Ikorodu.

The high powered meeting of Royal heads meeting, which held at the prestigious Royal Palace of Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija Kingdom, Epe Division, on Tuesday, September 14, was graced by crème de la crème of Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

Among the Royal fathers are Oloja of Epe, Oba Komurudeen Ishola Animashaun, Oba Abdulsemiu Kasali, Adegboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Kolawole Aliru, Alade Uraka of Poka, Oba Nelson Obayomi Aderemi Ogunlari, Olowu of Owu Ikosi, Oba Olumuyiwa Ogunbekun, Onilekki of Lekki, Oba Asunmo, Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu, Elejinrin of Ejinrin, Olorugbo of Orugbo Kingdom, Adegbajo of Odo-Gbawojo and other amiable and highly revered Obas.

The monarchs endorsed Abiru who paid them homage during the gathering.

The host, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja (JP), The Paramount Ruler and Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija kingdom, who had to find squeeze media engagement into his exceedingly busy schedule, discuss the essence of the gathering with EkoHotBlog.

“Today is a unique event, prior to this moment, we based this gathering on Ijebu traditional Obasmeeting but it translated into a political gathering and that of the celebration of one of our sons who is a year older today. Basically, Lagos State Ijebu Traditional Rulers is meant to foster unity among the Ijebu Obas in Lagos state. We all know that 99% of us are from Awujale and administratively, we happen to be part of Lagos state. We decided that in order to engender unity among the Ijebu Obas and Aworis, we have to gather ourselves together. The meeting is on a rotational basis. It is the turn of Oba Akadeshonyin today of which the next turn will be for another Oba.

“Presently, we don’t have any doubt about Abiru because we know the roles of his family in reference to Lagos state government and from the private sector as well. Abiru has been performing very well even before he gloriously resigned at Polaris Bank. Thank God that he is coming out to use his experience to passionately and selflessly serve the people in Lagos East senatoria district”, Kabiesi said.

His Royal Majesty stylishly wooed the electorates by opining that Abiru’s track record of good performance is convincing enough for them to massively vote in the coming elections. He said:

“I dont need to speak with the electorates, you know when you perform very well as a politician, definitely, you dont need to bargain with any electorate before you win the election. Mere seeing his antecedents, a lot of people withdrew their candidacy. So, I am sure he will win.

The Paramount ruler therefore advised Abiru to listen to counsel when the need arise”.

For his part, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, The Ayangburen of Ikorodu and Chairman Lagos State Ijebu Traditional Rulers eulogised the National Leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his decision to support Tokunbo Abirus emergence as the flagbearer of the party in the coming senatorial election in Lagos east as the right choice.

His Vice Chairman, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun corroborated Oba Shotobi’s statement describing Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as a man of policy and principle which is secod to none. His Royal Majesty however appreciated the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration, all government officials, the House of Reprsentatives member, Otunba Teni Zacheaus and all those who made the day a success.

The event which was meant to support the candidacy of Senator Tokunbo Abiru continued with a special prayer session led by Oba Asunmo, Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu Kingdom. The prayer session witnessed responses from the horse-tail wielding Royal fathers and other members of the APC political family in Epe Division.
