Ekohotblog:Lagos Environment Commissioner Suggests Solutions To Flooding
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab has suggested the building of secondary water collector as one of the ways to solve the perennial flooding in the state.
Wahab was reacting to the flash flood in some parts of Lagos after heavy downpour on Wednesday.
Some of the flooded areas were Oworoshoki, Gbagada, Oshodi, Lagos Island and Lekki where vehicles were Submerged.
The commissioner said that some of the roads in the areas could also be raised and the drains built a bit higher than as it is at present.
He allayed the fear of the residents, saying that the flood would soon disappear while urging them to obey all environmental laws.
Wahab attributed the flood to poor environmental culture of some residents who are in the habit of throwing refuse into open drains.
“Residents must desist from dumping refuse in the gutters and canals,” he said.
Hundreds of vehicles were Submerged by the flood on Wednesday while many residents also had their homes flooded.
