Lagos Environmental Health Week: KWASU Scholars Enlighten Participants
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Lagos Chapter, has begun their Environmental Health Week.
The programme kicked off on Monday, December 4, 2023.

In his opening remark, the EHOAN Lagos State Chapter President, San (Dr) Cyril Akinyele, called for the use of Instrumentation and Data Collection in strengthening the Environmental Health Practice.
“It is imperative that we deviate from usual practice to embracing technological and scientific approach in our day to day activities in the area of data collection and determining the level of pollution for accuracy, effectiveness and efficiency,” Dr Akinyele stated.
“This year’s event is centered on strengthening the Environmental Health Practice through Instrumentation and Data Collection. Building a Lagos Smart City and achieving the THEMES agenda of Mr. Governor on environment requires a distinctive and holistic approach.
“The association is determined to ensure our members are given the right skills and knowledge to enhance productivity. We must sit at the forefront of the campaign and the corridor of change to collectively sanitize the system with the rightful knowledge and skills to enhance quality of life and public well-being.”
Day 1 and Day 2 of the programme hosted Prof Henry Sawyer and Dr Niyi Opasola respectively, two academics from Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.
Prof Sawyer spoke on the topic “Building A Climate Resilient Lagos Smart City Through Environmental Health Services” where he mentioned the dominant shocks and stresses affecting Lagos State.
On his part, Dr Opasola dissected the topic “Strengthening Environmental Health Practice Through Instrumentation And Data Collection”.
He focused on the purpose of Instrumentation, Objectives and Benefits of Environmental Instrumentation and Monitoring.

The events were attended by the Permanent Secretary, PHCB, EHOAN National President Emeritus, San. Samuel Akingbeyin, Former EHOAN President, San. Taiwo Awonuga, San. Aramide Pedro, San. Y.A Arole as well as Environmental health officers from Federal and state parastatals and the 57 LG and LCDAs in Lagos State.
The week-long event would feature a sanitary walk, beach clean up and Award and Gala Night.
