Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, established by the Lagos State House of Assembly Law in 1967 and later amended in 2013, plays a pivotal role in organizing Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages for intending pilgrims from the state.
Core Mandate and Responsibilities
The Board’s core mandate includes organizing Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, facilitating visa and travel document processing, safeguarding the interests and welfare of Muslim pilgrims, arranging inoculation, transportation, and accommodation, and providing necessary assistance related to pilgrims’ health conditions within and outside the country.

Prestigious Awards and Recognition
During the 2023 Hajj exercise, Lagos State received several prestigious awards in recognition of its exceptional Hajj operations.
The state earned the ‘Most Disciplined State’ award from Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Ambassador Yahya Lawal, during his official visit to the state’s tent at Muna.
Exemplary Conduct and Accommodation
Additionally, the state received the ‘Award Plaque for Good Conduct’ from AbdurRahman AbdulHadj, Head of the Company of Mutawifs for Pilgrims from Africa Non-Arab Countries, in appreciation of the pilgrims’ exemplary behavior and cooperation with the service provider in Muna and Arafah.
Furthermore, the incumbent Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Mallam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, OON, fwc, commended Lagos State as the ‘First (1st) with the Best Accommodation (Ajyad Zone)’ in a letter dated December 4, 2023.

Facilitating Pilgrims’ Journey
In 2023, the Board facilitated the Hajj pilgrimage for a total of 3,655 pilgrims, while 1,862 pilgrims are expected for the 2024 Hajj.
