Eko Hot Blog reports that in a remarkable display of commitment to fostering self-reliance and independence among residents, Lagos State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has presented business and work tools to over 350 beneficiaries from across the state’s divisions.
The empowerment initiative, which took place during the Fifth Edition of Community Sensitization and Empowerment held at the Lagos House in Ikeja, saw the distribution of hairdressing kits, popcorn machines, shoe-making packs, tailoring machines, vulcanizing machines, gas cylinders, and industrial gas burners, among other essential tools.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Dr. Sanwo-Olu stated that the empowerment program is a testament to the government’s collective resolve to uplift communities, support the marginalized, and foster a culture of inclusivity and progress in a greater Lagos.
“The initiative stands as a testament to the government’s collective resolve to empower the various communities, uplift the marginalized, and foster a culture of inclusivity and progress in a greater Lagos,” she said.
The First Lady emphasized that empowering citizens is a priority for her office, as it contributes to the financial prosperity of beneficiaries, aligning with the present administration’s belief in investing in its citizenry.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu urged the recipients to embrace the gesture with determination and commitment, using the tools wisely, diligently, and perseveringly.
“Let these items be catalysts for positive change in your lives and our community. Strive for excellence, be resilient in the face of challenges, and always uphold integrity in your endeavors. Your success will not only uplift you but inspire others around you,” she said.
In addition to economic empowerment, Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted other strategic areas of support and interventions by her Office, including the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), healthcare interventions, social welfare programs for orphanage homes, educational initiatives, the fight against drug abuse, boy-child and girl-child initiatives, empowering youth and women, and caring for the physically and financially disadvantaged.
The First Lady also mentioned the recent conclusion of the Community Senior Citizens Visitation Initiative in Ikorodu and its environs, where gifts and cash were presented to senior citizens identified through the State Government’s database.
Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, commended the First Lady’s kind-heartedness and determination to empower the people, especially women, to be economically productive, stating that the initiative catalyzes change and serves as a beacon of hope for those striving to break free from poverty and inequality.
The event was graced by the presence of the Wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, representatives from various ministries, and stakeholders who echoed the call for beneficiaries to take advantage of the government’s investments to add significant value to their communities.
