Lagos State Government Sounds Warning Following Arrest of Illegal Miners

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its determination to tackle illegal mining and encroachment activity on its properties after two people engaged in sand mining were in Eti-Osa Local Government.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lands Bureau, Bode Agoro, during a site supervision exercise in Eti-Osa stated that the current administration of Lagos Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu would not relent in its efforts to ensure that monitoring is carried out on a regular basis, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
He stressed that the government had done a lot in the area of sensitisation on the need for proper verification before any purchase of land from opportunists popularly known as “Omo-Onile”, while warning sand miners to desist from illegal mining on Lagos State government land.
The General Manager, New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), Olakunle Aboyeji, also condemned the actions of the two illegal miners who were caught saying: “Their unscrupulous act was inimical and detrimental to the state development plan and, if not stopped, could lead to flooding of the schemes’ landmass with water from the Atlantic Ocean”.
Aboyeji said that arrested illegal miners arrested during the visit would be charged to court and dealt with, according to the stipulated Lagos state laws.
