To conduct the exercise, the state government deployed a Cessna 406 aircraft. The aircraft, with registration number ZS-SSY, is from South Africa and will be piloted by Capt. Tertius Van Wky.
The aircraft will carry out the mapping exercise for at least four and a half hours daily for six weeks, depending on the weather.
The state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, who inspected the aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
He was joined by the Special Adviser to the governor on EGIS and Planning, Dr Olajide Babatunde, and the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hakeem Fahm, among others.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the aircraft, Hamzat explained that the exercise would aid in the upcoming census in March. He added that having accurate data on the number of houses in the state would allow for better planning and development of the state’s infrastructure.
The deputy governor further stated that the exercise would enable the state government to have enormous data to plan for its citizens, thereby avoiding inadequate infrastructure and services.
He emphasized that the exercise is a vital step towards improving the state’s infrastructure and ensuring its citizens have access to better services.
