Ekohotblog:Lagos Govt Apologises Aftermath Flooding

Lagos State Government has Apologised to residents over the flooding that claimed the life of a child on Wednesday.

The state Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab tendered the apology while reacting to the situation on a national television on Thursday.

He said that the apology was borne out of the sympathy for the family of the drown child, even when the government had prepare against such situation.

Wahab attributed the flooding to rose in coastal tide due to climate change as he stated that government is doing a lot to contain such occurrence better in the future.

“There was rise in the sea level, which led to the flooding. However I apologize on behalf of the government” he said.

Our correspondent took a look at Lekki area of the state aftermath the flooding.

Lekki Lagos is a beautiful place to live except in the rainy season. The eyebrow area is a distinct definition of the elite class who only visit the mainland when they are leaving the country.

“I live in Lekki” is a statement of brag by residents whose idea of life is a mansion that stands beside the ocean and posch cars that are parked in the garage like antiques.

The prices of food stuff in Lekki are different from that of the mainland. A big tuber of yam that is sold at N5000 on the mainland costs about N8000 in Lekki.

The pilot scheme of Lagos State transportation restructuring will begin from Lekki corridor on the 1st of October, according to Mr. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on transportation.

It goes to show that the government has always had good plans for Lekki, perhaps because of its status.

However, residents of Lekki always find it tough during heavy downpour .
