The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), has begun demolishing shanties and illegal structures around NIPOST on Bourdillon Road in the Ikoyi area.

A statement released on Sunday by LASBCA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adu Ademuyiwa, stated that the demolition is part of the state government’s ongoing commitment to urban development, regeneration, and maintaining a safe, orderly environment.

Gbolahan Oki, General Manager of LASBCA, emphasized that the operation is key to addressing environmental and security challenges posed by illegal and unauthorized structures in the state.

Oki explained that the exercise is vital for improving the urban landscape, ensuring the safety of lives and properties, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

He noted that before the demolition of the illegal structures and shanties, all necessary notices, including quit and demolition notices, were properly served to the affected occupants.

Oki further stated, “Despite several warnings and ample time given for compliance, illegal structures have continued to emerge, causing disruption.”

“We cannot sit idly by while these unauthorized structures compromise the safety and orderliness of our city,” he added.

The LASBCA boss reiterated that the operation is part of the agency’s larger mission to ensure all buildings in Lagos State conform to approved development plans and comply with the State’s Building Regulations.

Oki concluded by assuring that LASBCA remains committed to promoting sustainable urban development and will continue to take enforcement actions in other areas where illegal developments are found.
