The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing women’s empowerment and sustainable agriculture.
Hon. Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, conveyed this commitment at the conclusion of a three-day workshop on cassava and vegetable farming.
The event, held at the Air Force Base in Shasha Akowonjo, was organized by the Ministry and focused on production, processing, and export marketing.
Dada emphasized the administration’s focus on reducing poverty, particularly among women and disadvantaged youth.
She highlighted that the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Development Agenda prioritizes agricultural development and food security as crucial elements of its economic strategy.
“The current administration has made an unprecedented degree of commitment to the general development of women and has demonstrated a high level of gender sensitivity in its inclusivity concept.
This training programme is timely and essential, as agriculture remains a cornerstone of our economy. We must ensure that our women are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in this sector,” she stated.

The Commissioner urged participants to apply their newfound knowledge to establish enduring agricultural ventures and reiterated the state’s support for women leading agricultural innovation.
“In empowering you through learning, you are taking critical steps not only towards your individual growth but also towards the prosperity of our communities,” Dada added.
Air Commodore M.A. Isah, Commander of NAF Base Shasha, praised the Lagos State Government’s initiative, which is executed through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The workshop provided hands-on training and expert advice on modern agricultural practices, including techniques for cassava and vegetable production, processing, and marketing.
To support the participants further, the Ministry distributed 200 bundles of cassava stems and 200 packs of Shoko seeds.
Certificates of Participation, along with essential farm tools and equipment, were awarded to the attendees.
The event was attended by notable figures, including the Oba of Shasha Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Kabiyesi Babatunde Lawal, his Chiefs, the Secretary to Alimosho Local Government, and Mr. Dare Ogunkoya, who represented the Chairman, along with experienced facilitators.
