Eko Hot Blog reports that Lagos State Government has sealed Quilox Nightclub, along Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, over alleged environmental and safety infractions.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) disclosed the development in a statement issued via X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.

According to the statement, Quilox club was sealed on Sunday morning by the enforcement team of LASEPA and the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) for being in contravention of environmental and safety infractions.

The agencies, however, did not reveal the specifics of the alleged infractions.

In a related development, the environmental law enforcement bodies implored the operators of the Sol, The Good, Landmark beaches and other social centres across the state to ensure that adequate considerations are made towards the safety and wellbeing of their neighbours and citizens of the state during the Yuletide.

Lagos State Government agencies seal Quilox Nightclub

The sealing of Quilox may not be unconnected to accusations that the club was causing the traffic on Ozumba Mbadiwe road, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The enforcement action is only the latest in a long line of Quilox’s run-ins with the Lagos government

In December 2019, LASEPA shut the nightclub but reopened it after securing the management’s commitment to comply with the State’s Environmental Laws, Regulations, Guidelines and Standards.

In July 2020, Quilox was one of the four facilities sealed for contravening different sections of the State Environmental Law and the directives of the Lagos State Government.

Similarly, LASEPA shut the popular nightclub on December 24, 2022, exactly a year ago, for its alleged failure to comply with directives on organising events and not obtaining a sound control permit from the agency.

The enforcement exercise, which was jointly carried out by the officials of the agency and the Lagos State Task Force, was also a result of several complaints made by residents in the area.

Reacting to the exercise, General Manager, LASEPA, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe disclosed that the agency received several distress calls with video evidence from concerned neighbours to support their claims on alleged environmental nuisances being perpetrated by the club without consideration to the rights of other residents to a peaceful environment.
