“The Building Planning Law being enforced by LASBCA does not limit our operations to only removal of distressed, non-conforming and haphazard buildings, but also covers shanties and structures under power lines.”
The Lagos State Government has declared its readiness to begin the demolition of illegal buildings under power lines and others, EKO HOT BLOG has gathered.
The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) made this known on Saturday noting that it would embark on the demolition of illegal structures constructed under high tension cables and others.
The General Manager of LABSCA, Mr. Gbolahan Oki, stated that the demolition exercise would affect owners of structures constructed on pipelines, which according to him, “contravened the state’s Physical Planning Laws”.
Oki further noted that the agency had served abatement notice to some properties in Peace Estate and communities around it as well as Gbagada axis to remove such illegal structures.
The LABSCA General Manager added that the measure was to halt further development of illegal structures under the power lines in Lagos State, noting that if the illegal developments were not checked on time, it would threaten security architecture, expose residents to danger, and distort aesthetics of the area.

“The Building Planning Law being enforced by LASBCA does not limit our operations to only removal of distressed, non-conforming and haphazard buildings, but also covers shanties and structures under power lines,” Oki stated.
The LABSCA boss, who expressed concern over the erection of structures under power lines and its attendant health hazard, said the agency would embark on the removal of “all illegal structures on the pipelines, under powerlines, in the interest of public health and safety of citizens”.
He, therefore, enjoined the residents of the state to continue to abide by the provisions of the Lagos State Building Planning Plan.
“The Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law prohibits building under the centerline of overhead electricity cables and should ensure that there should be a reasonable amount of distance between a property and high-tension wire.”
Oki emphasized that the state will not tolerate any form of shoddy architecture which tampers with high tension cables, which is liable to put the citizenry at risk.
He admonished Lagosians to embrace practices which ensures organised, and livable environment for the citizens of the state.
