Lagos Govt to Launch First Domesticated National Building Code in 2025

The Lagos State Government has announced its commitment to adopting a new Building Code in the coming year, aimed at achieving high-performance standards necessary for Lagos to become a sustainable and Smart City.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that this initiative was revealed at the Lagos State Executive Council Retreat on the Domestication of the Lagos Building Code, held on Wednesday at Ikeja GRA. The Office of the Special Adviser on e-GIS and Urban Development organized the event.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the retreat, underscored the importance of collaboration among ministries and agencies within the built sector to align Lagos State’s development with global best practices. He emphasized that the Lagos Building Code would enhance the city’s resilience and sustainability.

“We are the first to domesticate the National Building Code, developed by the Federal Government,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “While aligning with sovereign and sub-sovereign visions, our approach is unique because all cabinet members are involved. Their inputs are vital as this outcome impacts lives and various ministries.
