During a courtesy call to the Ministry by the association’s leadership, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, stressed the importance of organized, systematic, and sustainable growth in the built environment.

He emphasized that, “It is appropriate for APBN members to demand to view the Planning Permit before finalizing property transactions to help curb illicit developments and promote sustainability.”

Olumide revealed the simplicity of getting a permit and urged members with existing structures to apply.

He clarified that, “Despite misconceptions, the process of securing a Planning Permit is straightforward and uncomplicated.”

“Ensure your members and the public understand that existing structures without a Planning Permit can still apply for one,” he remarked.

He suggested that APBN could also aid the government by assisting in supervision, reporting irregularities, and educating craftsmen on adhering to standard practices at construction sites.

“I believe that the APBN can contribute to reducing building collapses in Lagos State by collaborating in the mentioned areas,” the commissioner added.

He urged the association to engage with the Lagos State Urban Development Policy by submitting proposals to shape the policy.
