Lagos Govt Urges Stakeholders To Invest In Wastewater Sector

By Babatunde Kaka

  • Matanmi stated that the office is planning additional 10-new Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), through private sector participation.

The Lagos State Government says there’s aavalanche of opportunities in the wastewater management sub-sector waiting to be tapped into.

The state government noted that the sector is a veritable cornerstone that could put the economy of the state on a sound footing.

Speaking during a special interview broadcast on NTA-2, the General Manager, Wastewater Management Office, Engr. Adebola M. Matanmi, implored the public to make a financial foray into the uncharted but fertile territory of wastewater sector.

He charged interested members of the public to take advantage of the inherent potentials in the wastewater sector which include; Haulage of Fecal Sludge, Consultancy Services, Facility Management, Rehabilitation, Operate and Transfer (ROT) of the existing public treatment plants, Engineering, Procurement and Contracting (EPC), and Provision of Wastewater Plant to the designated area through Design, Built, Operate and Transfer (DBOT), amongst others.

He maintained that the decentralisation of WWTPs is the promising alternative for the State because a centralisation will bring about arduous accessibility in a built-up society like Lagos.

In his statement, he noted that apart from accessibility and the enormous financial expenses of a centralised Wastewater Plant in a built-up society, there are possible litigations that may arise from the demolition that may go with such a venture. These, he said, may also delay the execution of the project and the achievements of the desired objectives.

While informing that the office is packaging a well-detailed publication to guide prospective investors on the various opportunities inherent in the sector, Engr. Matanmi asserted that there is a guaranteed return on investment given the high population of Lagos State.
