A motorist has narrated how he was attacked by men of the underworld on Eko Bridge. Eko Bridge is one of the three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the Lagos Mainland.

According to him, the robbery occurred at 9:30pm while he was stuck in traffic on the bridge.

Recounting his ordeal via tweets he shared on his Twitter handle @ogbenioloyede, he claimed the robbers vandalised his car window glasses, and took money from his bank account.

The man also alleged that he called police officers at the Iponri division but his efforts to get the police to come to his aid proved futile as they claimed not to have an ‘order’ to react.

He, however, advised people to avoid traffic on the bridge.

Despite efforts by the Lagos State Police Command to rid the state of criminal acts and elements, the attacks seem to be on the rise even with the recent clampdown on traffic robbers.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu at least 234 armed robbery suspects were arrested in Lagos between January and March 2021.

Notwithstanding, there is need for increased surveillance on some Lagos roads like The Eko Bridge, Carter and Third Mainland Bridges, Isolo Expressway and Ojota-Odo Iya Alaro Bridge, to mention a few that are considered blackspots where these criminals carry out their heinous acts.
