Lagos, Kano Governors Receive Grand Youth Awards

Youth-Powered Ecosystem to Advance Urban Adolescent Health (YPE4AH) project, a USAID-funded initiative has held its final dissemination event in Lagos on Friday, August 23, 2024.

This event marked the successful conclusion of a four-year effort that has positively influenced the lives of over 300,000 adolescents in four Lagos State Local Government Areas: Kosofe, Ikorodu, Mushin, and Lagos Island.

The project, which aimed to improve the health and well-being of out-of-school youth in urban slums, was executed in collaboration with the Nigerian Government and several key partners.

These included DAI, the Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative (YEDI), Women Friendly Initiative (WFI), Yellow Brick Road (YBR), and Grassroot Soccer (GRS).

Held at the Lagos Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, the event was themed “A Legacy of Empowerment: Reflecting on the YPE4AH Project.”

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube. Dr. Toni Adeyemi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, represented the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

The event drew a notable gathering, including Mr. Olusegun Ogboye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health; Mr. Olumide Sogunle, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Strategy; DAI Global CEO, Dr. Jim Boomgard; DAI President, Tine Knott; and DAI Nigeria Country Director, Dr. Joe Abah. Dr. Gertrude Odezugo, USAID-YPE4AH AOR, also participated virtually.

Additionally, the Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and representatives from the Kano State Government were in attendance.
