Lagos State government has launched an 80 million clean cookstoves project, a move toward climate leadership and sustainable development.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, unveiled the scale and ambition of the project during a press briefing at Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday.

Oshodi said the distribution of the first six million stoves would commence in Makoko, Lagos, in June.

She said, “We gather here to discuss another climate initiative and to witness the launch of a historic, game-changing project that will place Nigeria at the forefront of the compliance carbon markets under UNFCCC’s Article 6.4ER framework.
“The 80m Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism Clean Cookstoves Project is not just the largest clean cooking initiative in the world; it is a bold economic, social, and environmental blueprint that will deploy 80 million highly efficient, clean cookstoves across Nigeria.”
According to her, the project would generate 1.2 billion tonnes of compliance carbon offsets and create over 35 million green jobs.
On his part, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, said the project was being done in partnership with GreenPlinth Africa.
George said, “This partnership is more than just a formal agreement — it is a strategic leap forward in our quest to build a greener, healthier, and more inclusive Lagos. The 80 Million Clean Cookstove Initiative represents a transformational opportunity to improve the lives of millions, especially women and children, by promoting clean energy access, reducing harmful air pollution, and curbing deforestation across vulnerable communities.”
He commended Governor of the State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his leadership and unwavering support.
George said, “I also acknowledge the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy and the entire Implementation Working Group for their dedication and foresight.”
