Lagos Lockdown Stays For One Week Extra, Gradual Easing From May 4
President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the COVID-19 lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja over the outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria.
Ekohotblog reports that President Buhari in a live broadcast on Monday evening, April 27th extended restriction of movements in Lagos, Abuja, and Ogun to contain the COVID-19 spread, although there would be a curfew begining from May 4, 2020.
“Based on the above and in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Task Force on COVID nineteen, the various Federal Government committees that have reviewed socio-economic matters and the Nigeria Governors Forum, I have approved for a phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures in FCT, Lagos and Ogun States effective from Monday, 4th May, 2020 at 9am, after which curfew will be placed from 6am-8pm” the President said.
This online news platform understands that the President’s decision is coming a day after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 91 new COVID-19 cases in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Sunday evening, April 26.

The NCDC noted that of the 91 COVID-19 cases recorded on Sunday evening, 43 were detected in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city, 18-Sokoto 6-Taraba 5-Kaduna 5-Gombe 3-Ondo 3-FCT 3-Edo 3-Oyo 3-Rivers 3-Bauchi 2-Osun 1-Akwa Ibom 1-Bayelsa 1-Ebonyi 1-Kebbi, northern Nigeria
The NCDC tweeted: “91 new cases of #COVID19 reported; 43-Lagos 8-Sokoto 6-Taraba 5-Kaduna 5-Gombe 3-Ondo 3-FCT 3-Edo 3-Oyo 3-Rivers 3-Bauchi 2-Osun 1-Akwa Ibom 1-Bayelsa 1-Ebonyi 1-Kebbi As at 11:50 pm 26th April- 1273 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 239 Deaths: 40″ the tweet added.
Meanwhile, Ekohotblog reports that the development means that Nigeria’s total confirmed cases of coronavirus have risen to One thousand and two hundred and seventy-three (1273) with two hundred and thirty-nine (239) people discharged and forty (40) deaths recorded so far.
